Keys to Behaviour: Creating Emotionally Safe Environments

Keys to Behaviour: Creating Emotionally Safe Environments

Children need to feel safe in order to learn, develop and thrive.

If you are seeing significant behavioural responses in the children you work with, it might be time to re-evaluate how you create an emotionally safe learning environment.

We can have the very best intentions in the way we work with children, but unless they experience a sense of ‘felt’ safety, we will not be able to support them in the way they need us to. Without this, we will continue to see children demonstrating their stress or distress through their behavioural responses.

This course will teach you about the key factors in helping children to experience emotionally safety, including:

  • Practice based in acceptance, connection & belonging
  • Co-regulation & validation
  • Saying goodbye to rewards, punishments & being a ‘good girl/boy’
  • A safe sensory environment
  • Using statements & invitations rather than demands & questions
  • Talking about feelings
