Keys to Behaviour: Making Sense of Complex Behaviours

Keys to Behaviour: Making Sense of Complex Behaviours

This course starts from the position that all behaviour makes sense once we understand the child’s life experiences, brain development and potential for nervous system vulnerability.

We will explore some of the more complex causes of what we call ‘behaviour’ to increase understanding and improve practice.

Find out how attachment, trauma, sensory differences and neurodivergence can all affect the way children respond to their environment – and crucially what we can do to support them, advocate for them and change our practice for the better.

Learn about:

  • Factors that can affect a child’s nervous system vulnerability
  • The connection between attachment and behaviour
  • How to respond to individual sensory differences
  • How trauma affects children’s development and behaviour
  • The impact on neurodivergent children of living in a neurotypical world, and how this affects ‘behaviour’
  • Strategies for responding to behaviour in a way that prevents further distress
