Difficult Conversations: Practice for Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging

Difficult Conversations: Practice for Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging

A feeling of belonging and felt emotional safety is key when we are talking about ‘behaviour’. Belonging can only take place in settings where there is a clear and meaningful commitment to recognising, understanding and accepting diversity.

Many practitioners and teachers have a fear of talking about diversity and inclusion for fear of saying the wrong thing. Yet, it is these conversations that enable us to move away from tokenistic approaches to diversity, and move towards authentic and meaningful practice.

This course will explore:

  • The link between belonging & behaviour
  • How to help children experience a sense of belonging
  • Why conversations about diversity are still vital
  • The difference between authentic and tokenistic practice
  • Creating a truly inclusive early years environment
  • Having potentially sensitive conversations with children
