Keys to Behaviour: Responding to Hitting, Biting & Throwing

Keys to Behaviour: Responding to Hitting, Biting & Throwing

When children hit, bite and throw it can be distressing for everyone involved. This course will explore the reasons why children respond to their environment with hitting, biting or throwing. We will consider the connection between their ‘big feelings’ and their brain, along with their stage of development and sensory needs.

You will learn how to put the 4 step process for responding effectively and with co-regulation to children’s ‘behaviour’ into practice:

  • Co-regulate and validate
  • Set the boundary clearly and compassionately
  • Provide an alternative strategy/outlet to meet the child’s needs
  • Redirect with support
